Mundane Miracles

A few days ago, I returned from a trip visiting my dear friend and her family. She has a new baby who is just two months old and her first child. While there, we attempted many firsts for her with the baby. Small things that were, in fact, milestones. It was a beautiful reminder of the joy of sharing new experiences with friends as well as how big small steps can feel when we are in the unknown.

One thing we did, was go through a work book about creating family rhythms. I had actually recommended it to her a while back, when I saw a likeminded individual sharing it on instagram. It is focused on creating structure and rhythms for your family based on the kind of life you want to give your children.

In reading and brainstorming with her, I realized this is not something just for mothers but for anyone who wishes to live intentionally. I work with people on patterns internally and how to change them. I do believe the internal defines the external, but also the structure of our daily lives are often on autopilot and creating intentional patterns to support the life you want is essential.

While it may seem simple or even mundane, the miracles occur when we are present and spacious in the everyday.

I send this as a reminder to take a look at your daily life, the habits you choose and the ones that just seem to happen. Compare it to the person you fantasize about being, who exist in your dream life. This is not about being a perfect version of you, this is about looking at the most fulfilled version of you.

It so easy to put who we want to be in the “one day” category, as though some how we will magically be very different. But really, what is the life you want to live and what are the daily, weekly, monthly, and even annual things you would do to be there?

But rhythms are not merely about achieving goals, they are more about supporting you in the now. Providing consistency and structure for your own internal nourishment. The booklet was written for children in mind but I think there is a need for all of us to feel some sense of container to hold us. Even if it is just morning journaling and Tuesday pasta night, cleaning after work, and reading before bed.

I like to leave space in my life for flow, not having every moment scheduled. However creating structure for the things that help me feel my clearest allows me to actually have the space and inspiration to flow.

What kind of mundane structures create the space for the miraculous? (And by miraculous I mean spiritually connected moments of joy and creativity).

Well for me, meditation is always essential, but so is movement in nature (as well as fitness training). A clean home with good food is also a part of a life that works for me. These are the daily essentials, even if small moments of them. (And yes I have days where none of it happens, its okay, its about making a baseline)

Weekly things include journaling a few times, more focused work outs, like weight lifting, play such as a hike, swim or a small change of scenery. I must make more time for reading and less time for scrolling and surfing the internet. Making some food prep so not every meal needs to be thought of in the moment but also having days where more elaborate meals and inspired cooking can take the stage.

I need days where no work is scheduled and days where most of my focus is on work. There are things I want to learn and try so I must make small amounts of time for those. I also need days for just fully flow and solitude, a day to completely follow the magic without anything impeding it. Even if just monthly.

One of the keys for me is not to feel forceful but also to attempt to try things in a new way. You see, I want to be an inspired, present, creative and abundant person. I want to feel great in my body, comfortable in my home, and excited for whats unfolding. In order for entropy to not set in, I must create structure to help hold me up.

This may feel like how your life already functions but I challenge you to get past the necessary and make room for the inspired and creative. What small daily thing can you do to uplift you? What weekly thing can you do to excite you? What monthly thing could you plan to give you a deep reset?

If you need help with this and want a reading to focus on creating new patterns, let me know. The beauty of readings is that anything can come through with the right intention. Spiritual guidance covers a lot of ground. If you would like to look at the orignal booklet, send me an email and I can link the woman’s website.

I hope each of you move through this season with presence and grace.
